What requires a Building Permit?  
Building permits are required for construction that exceeds $2000 in value (materials and labor).  The following activities are excluded from permitting:  Any activities exempted under the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC) (IBC, Section 105 or IRC section R-105); painting; and landscaping activities not part of projects or developments requiring site plan review.  (Amended 6/12/12)  MUBEC

Site plans are only needed for changes in footprint. 

Permits are usually processed within two weeks. 

Inspections are generally conducted between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm on normal business days.

This is a general guide to permitting.  Applicants must comply with all requirements of the Zoning Ordinance. 

It is the responsibility of the property owner to obtain all necessary state permits (Permit by Rule, Fire Marshal) and federal permits (Army Corps of Engineers).
