The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining 38 miles of streets, roads and 10.5 miles of sidewalk. For winter maintenance we maintain another 20 miles of State Aid roads.
This department employs truck drivers, laborers, equipment operators, a foreman and director.
A full time mechanic and assistant mechanic provide maintenance and repair to the Towns fleet of trucks, and heavy equipment. Public Works mechanics also work and maintain vehicles for Parks & Rec., Police, Fire, Harbor and Wastewater Department.

It is our goal to continue to maintain the unique beauty and charm that Camden is historically known for. To maintain the quality of life that the residents have come to know, by maintaining the roads, sidewalks and other infrastructure that the Public Works Department is responsible for. We will help keep the title of “Tree City” and maintain a healthy canopy of street shade trees for future generations to enjoy.
This department will carry out its duties with diligence, integrity and compassion by employing qualified and experienced employees who will grow through continued training and experience.

Temporary Closings & Weight Restrictions
Many roads are vulnerable to damage during certain times of the year. Provision 29-A M.R.S.A. § 2395 allows municipalities to close a road to all traffic, or to impose restrictions upon the gross weight, speed, operation and equipment of vehicles during periods of the year as determined by the municipal officers.
